Crows in the roost quieting down for overnight!
Conditions: clear skies, wind S at 3MPH, temp at 72F, sunset time 6:06PM
Out on Crow Patrol with first stop atop parking garage with Crows starting to gather in small numbers on rooftops below about 35 minutes before sunset. The initial buildup took place on multiple roof areas around the Jackson Lumber complex on Market Street. Crows were streaming in from the south and west. In addition, other flight streams were observed more to the east and gathering down near the NXStage building closer to Rt. 495.
Moved over to the north side of the Merrimack River, just before sunset time, with views up and down the river. The incoming flight action picked up with streams coming in from the NW, about 8 minutes after sunset time, with over 150 Crows in this image, against beautiful, brightly colored, and glorious sunset skies.
At this point, about 15 minutes after sunset time, the Crows were gathering in larger numbers on the nearby warehouse roof and the truck depot area with intermittent flight bursts. The overall vocalization levels increased significantly with over 500 Crows in flight in this image!
The flight action picked up as well as almost 400 Crows flew towards the west end of the New Balance building and more Crows kept arriving from the south. Over the next fifteen minutes, the Crows converged on both the roof of the New Balance building and into the overnight roost until they all settled into the roost after dark. The numbers continue to increase!
